If Imam Hussain (AS) is remembered for his sacrifice at Karbala, his sister Sayyeda Zainab (SA) is remembered for what came after. Following the tragedy, it was Zainab (SA) who survived captivity, humiliation, and forced marches to Kufa and Damascus, and who used that platform to deliver fearless speeches exposing the injustice of Yazid’s court. Without her strength, the story of Karbala may never have reached the world the way it has.
“Ya Zainab” is invoked as an expression of that same resilience, an acknowledgment of a woman who carried grief and responsibility simultaneously, protecting her family while refusing to let their sacrifice be silenced or distorted by those in power.
