While Muharram and Ashura are the most well-known mourning occasions in the Shia calendar, they’re far from the only ones. Throughout the year, various dates mark the martyrdom of the Imams and members of Ahl al-Bayt, each observed with the same spirit of restraint and remembrance, often including wearing black.
Arbaeen, forty days after Ashura, extends the mourning period for many, while other significant dates throughout the year mark individual losses within Ahl al-Bayt. Recognizing these occasions, even quietly, is part of maintaining a consistent connection to their memory rather than limiting it to a single month.
